Captain America review
Pros: This is definitely the Captain America movie fans have been waiting for. Chris Evans owns this role and he does what Christopher Reeves did for Superman. The supporting cast was phenomenal the best since The Dark Knight. The romance is believable unlike the one in Thor. The Action and Score were memorable unlike Thor. The 3D was pretty good for Post-Conversion 3D.
Cons: The film was so good that I wanted it to be longer. No need for it to be 3D even though it was pretty good. Not enough Bucky Barnes (Captain America’s best friend and sidekick). It made me realize the major flaws that were in Thor.
It was a week ago when I entered a contest to see the film Captain America: The First Avenger. When I entered the contest I thought that the prize would never fall into my hands. Much to my surprise I ended up winning the contest. I went to the theatre and shown the usher my ticket and I sat in my seat. When the screen started the Captain America fan in me began to cheer on the inside. This might be a spoiler for some people, but people who know Captain America knows what happens. [Spoilers] Captain America: The First Avengers starts off in modern with SHIELD discovering the frozen remains of an old warship in the arctic with the frozen body of Captain America inside. The rest of the film takes place in 1942 and the United States has just entered into World War II. A frail, sickly and short Steve Rogers (Played by Chris Evans in a guaranteed star making role) tries to enlist into the war for a fourth time. The army failed him four times because of his weak physique. That doesn’t deter Steve Rogers from trying to fight the good fight. It was by chance and luck that Steve Rogers was enlisted by Abraham Erkshine (Played wonderfully by the great Stanley Tucci) who is the head of the super solider program. The film’s villain is the Johann Schmidt as Nazi Scientist who would later become the Red Skull. His main purpose is to take over the world and do it before Adolf Hitler and his Nazis can. Dr. Erkshine and the US army led by Colonel Chester Phillips (Played by Tommy Lee Jones) decide to use Steve Rogers as their first super soldier to stop the Red Skull. Once it is a success Col. Phelps decides to start a whole line of super soldiers, but it’s too late Dr. Erkshine is assassinated. This major moment in the film thrust Captain America into action. In between al that there is a very believable love story between Captain America and British Intelligence officer Peggy Carter (Played by the beautiful Hayley Atwell)
The acting is top notch and the relationships are believable. The action set pieces are nothing but amazing. The special FX was top notch and the character development was on par. There was never a moment in the film where you did not sympathize with the main hero Steve Rogers. You felt his emotions throughout this film and in the end you really root for him as Captain America. The movie romance is more organic and believable than the one that was presented in another Marvel Studios film that came out this summer Thor. In that film the romance felt forced whereas in this film you as an audience member were charmed by Steve Rogers. The film has a very Indiana Jones feel to it with a dash of James Bond appeal. I would go as far as to say that this movie is up there with Raiders of the Lost Ark, the movies that great.
Now there probably will be questions about the films post-credits teaser for the upcoming Avengers movie. Unfortunately that was not part of the film print that I saw because it was an advance critic screening, but I hear that it’s going to be attached to it when the film comes out on July 22nd 2011. This makes it much better for me when I see this again because this film is that good. I love this movie so much and I will pay to see it when it comes out on the 22nd because this film is definitely a classic. Director Joe Johnston has really made what has become my absolute favorite movie behind the Dark Knight. This movies gets 5/5 stars and it’s a guaranteed full price movie.
