The Green Hornet gets reviewed by The Black Reviewer

This Review may have spoilers so I will warn the reader whenever i decide to mess up and spoil something. I just recently decided to see The Green Hornet with my father and I was happy about seeing it period. The idea of Green Hornet excited me and I was very skeptical when the rolly polly Actor Seth Rogen decided that he was going to star as the Green Hornet. When you Think of Super Hero Seth Rogen does not come to mind. I was in for a treat when I saw the movie. It bounces from Comedy to Action when it comes to tone and theme. It seems to hit more than miss when it comes to the comedy department. It is a huge shot of adrenaline when th action kicks in. It hits the target when its a action film.

Plot: Seth Rogen plays Britt Reid an arrogant trust fund baby, who spends his time having sex with random women in his father’s luxury cars. One day after  a night of heavy partying and drinking his father shews him out and leaves Britt to wallow in Pity, His father is murdered. Ironically his death is due to a supposed bee sting. After firing his father’s servants he wakes up one morning and after drinking a horrible  brew of coffee he demands to know who made the coffee that he loved before his dad died. The man who made his brew was his father’s Kung fu fighting mechanic Kato. Later that night they decide to get drunk and deface Brit’s father’s statue. In the process they decide to stop a couple from getting mugged. They decide that they enjoyed saving the couple and Britt suggests to do that as a permanent job. The plan is to pose as villains to stop the villains.

PROS: Whoa was the action just awesome. Jay Chou is the actor who fills in the shoes of Bruce Lee is mind blowing. My mother is a huge fan Bruce Lee and she would approve of this new actor. Jay Chou has skill and this new take on bullet-time called Kato Vision is sweet. Christoph Waltz as the villain named Chudnofsky (later in the film changes his name to Bludnofsky) is truly hilarious and scary at the same time. His running joke of trying to become more scary never gets old. The opening 20 minutes of the film is the best opening i have seen in years. There also is a great cameo from one of Hollywood’s new growing talent. The last thirty minutes of the film is the best ending to any action film I had seen since the A-Team. The chemistry between Jay Chou and Seth Rogen was also amazing. Micheal Gondry’s Direction is really good.

CONS: Micheal Gondry’s Direction is to eccentric for this picture. Whenever Seth Rogen was trying to play himself play The Green Hornet. He was trying way too hard. Some scenes did not need to be funny. Cameron Diaz was not really needed. Her scenes did not add anything to the plot. She was just there to add a pretty face and another famous name to the roster.

VERDICT: I find Seth Rogen and Jay Chou a very entertaining duo and I want to see more Green Hornet Films. I think this will spawn more films and I think people want to see more of Jay Chou’s Kato. The action is amazing and the Comedy is meh. As a straight up Action Film it’s pretty kick ass, but as a straight up comedy or spoof it ok. It depends on what mind set you are in when you see it. If you come seeking an action movie then you will fall in love with it. If you want a comedy it will be a bit disappointing. overall the movie gets a solid B
